Resolved Question: Is there really a giant island of plastic in the pacific?

The claims are that there is a giant "island" of plastic floating between San Francisco and Hawaii. If there really is where are the photos? Is it just a big hoax formed by the government? Is there multiple "islands"?? I've seen all the documents and I've read all the articles but i have yet to see a convincing photo of it.
